A business leader with a global purview, Raffaele Riva holds dual citizenship in Switzerland and Italy and speaks fluent French, Italian, and English. He graduated with honors from Milan’s Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore with a degree in economics, before becoming a Qualified Accountant with a Dottore Commercialista degree. While working as a senior corporate administrator, he completed a pair of post-graduate programs in Switzerland, one at the Canton Ticino Management Business School and one at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland.
After providing strategic advice and working at top multinational conglomerates for decades, Raffaele Riva went into business for himself by establishing AUREA Multi Family Office in 2008. As a co-owner and partner in AUREA, he oversees a team of highly qualified professionals and associates with specialized skills in areas that range from wealth management and estate planning to real estate and sport finance.
As the leader of AUREA, Raffaele Riva draws upon considerable expertise in corporate financing, corporate restructuring, banking law, tax law, accounting, trust real estate, M&A transactions, international cross-border activities, and other related fields. Over the years, he has created a number of regulated companies that operate under the AUREA umbrella, including BGB AUREA Ltd., Milano Fiduciaria, Aurea Gestioni Patrimonialia SA, and Aurea Consulenti Associati SA.
Perhaps unsurprising for someone who has accomplished so much, Raffaele Riva has a great deal to offer in terms of sharing insights on productivity. In many cases, his productivity tips can be quite simple and straightforward. For example, he heartily recommends that busy people make the absolute most out of their smartphones as the diverse tools that they are. He happens to own an iPhone, and he uses it to accomplish a staggering array of personal and professional tasks on a daily basis.
No two days look the same for Raffaele Riva, but by embracing this versatility, he is able to boost his productivity. Although his schedule is dictated by his rapidly evolving business responsibilities and strategic goals, each working day is thoroughly planned ahead of time and detailed in an organized agenda.
A few other general rules govern Raffaele Riva’s daily operations and remain consistent no matter what is on his plate. He typically starts his working day between 7:30am and 8:00am and ends his working day between 8:30pm and 9:00 pm. He is also careful to organize tasks in a uniform way, beginning with the most urgent work to ensure that he completes it in a timely manner.
“My typical day depends also upon what type of meetings and clients I have to meet during the day and where rather than the achievement I have to reach,” says Raffaele Riva. “I travel a lot, and each day is different. I plan my meetings and appointments with wide advance to make the day productive and not waste time.”
When asked to name a single personal habit that makes him more productive as an entrepreneur, Raffaele Riva stresses the supreme power of positive thinking. He also emphasizes the importance of asking key questions and staying up to date with the latest advancements in your chosen field. “Be curious to learn in any circumstance,” he says. “Read a lot and everything. Watch and listen to any topic of interest.”
Taking a broad look at the subject of productivity, Raffaele Riva ultimately realized that it must be managed carefully. “I let the growth of my business exceed my own ability to manage it, and I committed to too many opportunities and projects with too many business partners,” he says. “Some of them have proved to be the wrong choice, and the rapid growth was like the cancer. I overcame it by understanding that ‘I don’t do it’ is completely different than ‘I cannot do it,’ and I came back to my healthy growth saying ‘no more.’”
